Since a very young age I have had a huge passion and interest for anything technical, I am not scared to ask questions and I am never satisfied by knowing that something “just works”, I like to know exactly how it works because in my opinion, it’s the best way to learn, especially in a constantly changing and developing industry like IT.

I finished University in 2014 at Edge Hill in Ormskirk, obtaining a First in the subject of Computing. Since June 2014 I have been working full time for Impact Computing in a busy first/second line IT Engineer role (Support Team Leader since March 2016), for businesses with 5 to 100 users. The companies and systems supported are diverse, giving me a better understanding of all areas of IT Support.

I work with local charitable organisations, running their IT systems and I have also completed several IT based work placements in school environments. My charitable work means that I have had some great opportunities to single-handedly design and build a network from the ground up, which includes a Hyper-V environment with multiple domain controllers and remote access servers, IP Cameras, a VoIP Solution, Managed wireless for staff and guest access, a thorough backup solutions and more.

I would consider myself to have very good communication skills, I am able to speak with clients in a professional and friendly manner over the phone and face to face.

I have a keen interest in a computer support/network management based profession, I like a challenge and I love to expand my knowledge and learn new things. I am able to work well both as part of a team and independently. It is important for me to challenge myself and that I become an active and valued member of the team/company I am working for. I do not believe I would be happy in a job role where the daily tasks became constantly repetitive as I am always pushing to improve myself and the systems/infrastructure around me.

As well as the wide range of experience that I have gained from various voluntary roles and through paid work, I have gained my Microsoft Technology Associate Qualification and my plan is to continue working towards other qualifications.

New Network Build from the Ground Up!

I was given a very interesting opportunity to design and build from the ground up a new network for a business that required new offices due to growth.

The new office space was built from the ground up which gave me the opportunity to design and implement everything from phone systems, servers and PC’s right down to cabling, sockets and lighting!

The system includes a VoIP phone system, 3 Windows Servers with virtulisation for replication and fail over. There are several end user PC's onsite spanned across three physical buildings. The full design and implementation was completed by myself and it has been a very interesting project to help expand my knowledge.

My Home Network

I am always trying to learn more and develop my knowledge, my home network allows me to do this.

My home network includes a custom build server with visualization, a fully managed wireless solution from Ubiquiti, managed switches, PoE cameras and more.

My Cloud Dedicated Server used for Training

I have a dedicated server in Germany which I used for testing and training purposes.

The Server is running Windows Server 2012 R2 and is using Hyper-V with a range of virtual machines and pfSense at it's core. The server is used for training environments so that I can continue to expand my knowledge.

Service Desk Operator

Runshaw College - Leyland, Preston

September 2016 - Present

Runshaw College Service Desk services approximately 11,000 users including staff and students. I work with a wide range of technologies on a daily basis including Office365, Cisco Firewalls, Proxies, Web Filters and more. I am very driven and motivated to expand my knowledge and learn new things and I try to involved myself with as many technical tasks and projects as I can. My mindset has been, and will continue to be focused on implementing solutions and systems which are efficient, easy to manage, secure and reliable. I am the first point of contact for any IT issues and I try to maintain a high resolution rate at the first point of contact with the end user, this could be as simple as a website unblock, to more complex network/infrastructure issues.

Support Desk Engineer (Team Leader from beginning of 2016)

Impact Computing supports businesses with up to 150 users. The technologies used were diverse, giving me a better understanding of many different areas in IT.

As a Team Leader for 1st/2nd Line Support, it was my responsibility to ensure that my team deal with issues quickly, efficiently and proactively, primarily via telephone and email. I also traveled to client sites when necessary for installs, deployment, and troubleshooting. I was also primarily responsible for the technical training of new staff.

I was the main point of escalation to 3rd line support when necessary and I regularly worked with managing, maintaining and troubleshooting technologies such as: Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server OS's, Hyper-V, ESXI/VMWare, Printers, Group Policy, VPN's, Draytek Routers, Hosted VoIP solutions, Managed Wireless & Remote Desktop.

I started a voluntary role at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary in 2005 with a keen interest in computing. I was the only technically competent person at Woodlands which has allowed me to expand my range of computing knowledge:
- Network Administration – Windows server setup and configuration (domain controllers, DHCP, DNS, and Print Servers), IP Phones, IP Cameras, CAT5e/6 cabling.
- Web Design & Maintenance - CSS and HTML. I now manage 5 of their websites (1 CMS site and 4 static HTML sites).
I am now once of the 9 trustees at the Sanctuary and manage all aspects of network, website and email.
